Niger Coup: ECOWAS gives One Week Ultimatum to Military Junta
In an emergency meeting organised by the ECOWAS in Abuja on 30th July, 2023, the regional body gives one week dateline to military Junta to return the country to the ousted president Muhammed Bazoum. ECOWAS however, enforced economic sanctions on the Niger republic as a result of this military intervention. The fifteen member states also ordered the released of the ousted president and returned to his presidential seat after overthrown by the military Junta on 26th July, 2023. In a communiqué released after the meeting of ECOWAS in Abuja, Nigeria, the communiqué says, they took necessary actions to ensure return of constitution in Niger republic and gives one week ultimatum to return the country to democratic rule and failure to do the valued demands within one week will lead to the use of force against the military government. Trade saction is enforced between the member states and Niger republic, even though the country is still member of the regional government. All Niger republic f
