Hamas launches surprise attacks on Israel, over 700 dead and 1600 injured.

On the morning of October 7th, 2023, Hamas fighters launched a series of unexpected attacks on Israel, resulting in a staggering death toll of over 700 people and more than 1600 casualties. The situation escalated dramatically when Hamas unleashed over 700 rockets on Israeli territories, leading to numerous fatalities and injuries.

The Israel territories saw a successful invasion, with approximately 22 corridor communities falling under Hamas control. This offensive was carried out by breaching the IDF's reinforced border fence at multiple points along the border, military landings were conducted with naval corridors, motorised paragliders, and drones all coordinated to begin early in the morning, around 6:30 am.

According to reports , the toll on the Israeli side reached approximately 700 fatalities, with over 1600 people wounded. There were also concerns about the potential for further casualties, as Hamas claimed to have kidnapped several Israeli as part of a prisoner exchange demand.

In response to these attacks, Israel launched air strikes to defend it's territory, resulting in the destruction of numerous civilian residencies in Gaza and the loss of many civilian lives. These incidents have not only highlighted the determination and readiness of Hamas forces but have also exposed vulnerabilities in the IDF's intelligence system.

Coincidentally, these attacks occurred on the anniversary of Egypt's surprise attacks on Israel on October 6th, 1973, adding historical significance to the ongoing conflict.

The surprise attacks have also underscored the limitations of the iron done defense system, which failed to shield Israelis  from these unprecedented and deadly assalts. This has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the iron done and the preparedness of Israel to protect itself from future threats. A reassessment of the iron dome's capabilities and Israel's defensive readiness is now imperative.
