Education: Open Education and Its importances

Open education is an educational system founded on openness with connections to other educational system, which favours widening participation and inclusiveness in society (Zawacki-Richter, Olaf, 2020). Open education gives access to the learning and training traditionally offered through formal education systems and typically offered through online and distance education. The word open in the open education means the elimination  of barriers that can preclude both opportunities and recognition for participation in institution based learning.

Some examples of institutions practice open education include National Open University of Nigeria, Open University in Britain, Open Leaning in Canada and Open University in Catalonia in Spain.

IMPORTANCE OF OPEN EDUCATION 

• The system enables the learners to study at their own pace.

• New materials can only introduce after it has adequately evaluated.

• The barrier for admission requirement is eliminated

• The feedback mechanisms reduces students anxiety.

• Supplement inadequate classroom presentations..
