Education: Youths Education In Nigeria Heading To Generation of Idiots
Nigeria, my lovely country, the country that were pinpointed among the countries with hopes and future in education. The first generations of Nigerian youths were best in the country and abroads way back. Some of them became leaders before and after the independence of the country. They became paradigm among their counterparts in those days. This first generation used the education learnt governed the nation with clear heart and mind made the foundation of education for the next generations. These foundations were first started destroyed immediately after their generations by those succeeded them.
Where are we wrong?! This is a question that everyone need its answer.
The worsen corruption in the country from the late 80s during the second republic was the major cause of Nigerian destruction of education. The monies budgeted for education and building of infrastructure were stolen by the succeeding generations used to build themselves, children and building Mansons in big cities within and outside the country, people holding public, political offices also took this advantage and now shifted to military and paramilitary were funds budgeted for security ended in their pockets. The minds of Nigerians are now corrupted looking for who to give them money irrespective of where they get the money.
Thus, the dilemma shifted to education which is the heart of development of any nation. Educational system in the country were deterioted at different levels in all parts of this country. The destruction started from the southern part were malpractices demonated their examination centers and candidate can pass exams without knowing the subject matter. When politicians discovered it was very easy to steal from education, the education shifted to arena for destruction. By awarding contracts and collecting 40% to 45% from the contractors or awarding the contracts to their own companies or where they are shareholders. Now it comes to recruitment of teachers and non teaching staffs, the recruitments were on political grand, your loyalty to party in power determine the slots you will get.
The highest danger today pupils and students were completing studies empty brains or could not even write their names correctly talkless of building a good sentences. My fear today is the future of education of this country, which is alerting us the direction of this challenge.
However, in the southern part of the country exams miracle centers became a centers for passing exams when paying how many credits you need. Its however, shifted to North especially in Kano and Kaduna micracle centers for WAEC, NECO, JAMB and others. Most graduates from the south were graduated by paying monies to pass, even though we have seen many that can depend what they studied. Still now the North is backward in education and industries.
On 8th June, 2022 WAEC issued on a circular for social media blogs collecting monies to supply answers to the lazy students during exams, this is why most exam centers were covered with smartphones.
Moreover, most private schools were built as money making schools, students pay for the malpractices with the knowledge of parents and governments, only malpractice schools were getting more students. Thus, all thses malpractices happened because of corruption in the country.
Joblessness has been affecting the youths in the country as a result of poor education. Youths were only trained to become labourers instead of employers. Universities awarding degrees every year and Nigeria became a pool full of graduates and postgraduates which couldn't produce anything waiting for government to give them jobs.
We are not late, Allah has been given us chance to change but we were still misusing the chance taking it as a mere joke. I'm optimist not pessimist, Nigerian leaders will come back to their senses to do what is better for the nation. But no hope for the situation today because poverty was destroying the living standard of people. People are always thinking of what to eat , drink and wear, we can be out of this when Nigerians are not thinking what to eat, wear and lived.
Finally, how do we solve the problem?! The answer is, it's responsibility of stakeholders which include parents, teachers, governments, businessmen and women and traditional leaders to work together in solving the problems for the benefit of next generation.
